Back in Reykjavík

We are back at our home base in Reykjavik after an awesome time in
Skaftafell and with the dogs near Vik today. We stopped in Vik on the
way to shop for some sweaters and other wool products. The verdict on
Vik is that it's in a totally beautiful place... but, in terms of
services it leaves much to be desired. The best food option seems to
be the restaurant at the gas station, which was actually surprisingly
decent, but not much to write home about. The look of the Hotel Puffin
additionally made us really happy that we opted not to stay there.

Something TO write home about is the food at Ban Thai in Reykjavik. It
was all really authentic stuff, and the owner came out and gave us
recommendations. The Tom Yum soup was delicious! We might actually eat
here again before we leave. The only downside was the very slow
service - they seemed totally understaffed.

They aren't so much tired as hot

They can work in temps of -50 deg F to 50 deg F, with optimum being -10 deg. These are dogs from Greenland, though they look like huskies.

Dogs taking us across the beach

So amazing! Usually they do this on the glacier ice, but since there is ash from the volcanos, they can't do their usual routes.

Dogsledding in Iceland

We booked with dogsledding.is and they were great. They brought a yellow wagon/trolley for 4 people which the pack of 10 dogs pulled easily.

So we have a bit of backlog on the dogsledding

Outside our hotel

It's finally sunny today! We're driving back to Reykjavik after our expedition yesterday. We'll be stopping near Vik to do some dog sledding on the black sand beaches, which sounds like soooooo much fun!
